Review

The aptly named restaurant, Good, doesn’t temp foodies with the promise of the holy grail of sumptuousness, but it does deliver on its name. The space is simple with a 10 stool bar up front. It’s really pretty non-descript, nothing original or particularly inventive (as the straight-forward name implies). But it does do the trick if you’re in the area.

It’s a robust menu (which is not always a good thing), and of the items I’ve tried, the dishes with pulled pork are dependable, the harvest salad is solid and the skirt steak is perfectly above average. The main problem with Good might be that they’re trying to do too much. With burgers, flatbread pizza, steaks, turkey scallopine, pasta dishes, bar snacks…(the list goes on), it’s easy for the patron to get lost, and next to impossible for the kitchen to perfect so many different things.

The service is pretty standard for New York, which means minimal personality, and when the place is empty, it feels border-line depressing to me. At the end of the day, it really does seem that the owners of Good are pretty straight forward with their aspirations.
